Our client Julie Glesson very kindly shared her experiences from the Cumbria Floods when both Storm Desmond and Storm Frank crashed into the UK.
She used the aqua-sac® she had bought back in July 2013 preparing her home just in case a flood threatened. On the 5th/6th December Storm Desmond devastated The County of Cumbria. This video was taken on the 26th December ‘Boxing Day’. Julie tells us that she “used the aqua-sac® to channel the ‘waterfall’ coming down the garden away from the house and down the road. It was nearly coming in a few days before so we just put the aqua-sac down dry and the rain did the rest”
Not maybe the conventional of way of deployment but it obviously worked !! Julie has since ordered more bags to replace the ones she used.

Storm Desmond dumped 341mm (13.4 in) of rain in Honister, Cumbria, within 24 hours. This may be verified as a national record when more data is received next month. More than 5,000 homes across the region were flooded and 60,000 were left without power.

“I first found Aqua sac online after realising soon after moving to our present house that water sometimes ran off the fields behind us into the garden even though we are on a hill. The water got into the garage one summer in a sudden rainstorm! and was very near the door of the house. We fixed the garage by building a step, and during each bad rain storm we put the dry aqua sacs in the conservatory ‘just in case’.
Then when the recent floods came to Eden Valley, we saw the garden waterfall running for two days non stop but the water was guiding itself down the path and steps, it just needed a bit of help once on the patio to run past the house, garage and away we used the aqua-sac® to channel the ‘waterfall’ coming down the garden away from the house and down the road. It was nearly coming in a few days before so we just put the aqua-sac down dry and the rain did the rest. We saw a red squirrel using them as a way to avoid the puddle too:).
The best thing is how you can store them as they take up hardly any room. I know this time we got off lightly, but the aqua sacs definitely helped us and would cope with more water than we had. we didnt even use them properly to be honest ( sorry) so I would suggest watching the videos of how to use them, i am glad to get a new supply to keep for next time but hopefully that wont be for a while”.
